The beam characterization is performed in a dedicated diagnostic beam line consisting of a straight and dispersive sections ending in beam dumps. Consequently, Ts4i is a small electron accelerator also used to qualify beam diagnostics equipment operated in CW as a by-product. It is built and operated within the framework of the European XFEL accelerator R&D efforts.
