Cathodes screwed to a superconducting RF (SRF) gun cavity back wall in a clean room need to be robust against the exposure to air and also against well-established SRF cavity cleaning procedures. Metal cathodes comply with this requirement. We perform R&D to optimize the quantum efficiency (QE) and the robustness equally.
